Wednesday, March 26, 2008 - 10:15 AM
Fifth Annual Second Chance 5K Supports Organ Donation Awareness
Bring the family for a day of fun to support organ donation awareness. This is the fifth anniversary for the Second Chance 5K Fun Run. The race will be held on April 19 at 9:00 a.m. and registration will take place from 8:00-8:45 a.m. It begins at the USU Romney Stadium (800 E. 1200 N.), winds through USU's scenic campus, and ends where it began. Registration includes a T-shirt, drinks, snacks, and a goodie bag. All proceeds go to support individuals and families going through the organ transplant or donation process and to improve organ donation awareness. To register to participate in the 5K, go to http://www.getpatience.com to download a copy of the registration form. Registration fees are $10 before April 12 and $15 after April 12. For more information, feel free to contact Irene Elbert at (435) 752-2828, Patience Fisher at (435) 752-9590, or Annalisa Fox at (435) 713-6322. An average of 18 people die each day from the lack of available organs for transplant. Thanks for your continued support of this life-changing cause. To register online to become an organ donor, go to http://www.yesutah.org or www.donatelife.net.

VOTE "YES" FOR LIBRARY
Monday, November 05, 2007 - 10:59 AM
Vote YES on Tuesday, Nov. 6th, to build the Smithfield Library.
I am really concerned about the letter that was hung on everyone's front door on Saturday. There are absolutely NO PLANS to tear down the old Carnegie library and I know of several of us on the council that would fight tooth and nail to keep it. We would like to see if upgraded and turned into a museum to house all the great memorabilia that is currently in the tiny little log house in Central Park.
*Building costs are going up 8-16% a year...even starting next spring will add an additional 8%! We have delayed over 4 years now...how much more can we truly afford by waiting?
*We have received a $750,000 grant for landscaping and a plaza...which we could lose if the library bond is not approved. *We can no longer receive many of the grants and monies for the library as it is in such bad shape...and not accessible by those with certain disabilities, the elderly have a terrible time with the stairs, it is a disaster waiting to happen WHEN an earthquake hits, it is at capacity (if not over) for the storage of books, computers and media, not to mention that we have an amazing unprotected art collection hanging on walls that could be easily damaged.
*The letter stated that fundraisers could be used to collect the money...just like Hyrum. Didn't we just read about 2-3 weeks ago that Hyrum is in terrible shape and ended up $2,000,000.00 in the hole because people didn't follow through!!?? It's true. 2 million dollars in the hole. Not a good point.
*The fliers also stated that you would pay a certain amount per year for 20 years. Not true. As more people move into the city, the bond will be spread out to the new homes...which will take over part of everyone's payment. Did you know that you are only paying 1/2 of what you started out paying on the rec center 9 years ago? That's because new homes have been built and they are helping share the cost of the rec center...just like what will happen with the new library.
Smithfield needs a new library desperately...please vote YES tomorrow.
Thanks, Kris Monson Smithfield City Council 563-0337
