Hello, library friends! May is here and that means our Smithfield Library Summer Reading Program is just around the corner! We have so many fun programs and activities that we’re getting ready for all our patrons, from babies and schoolkids to teens and adults! The theme this year is “Adventure Begins at Your Library” and we couldn’t agree more. We’re going to have a blast celebrating the adventurers in all of us. Stay tuned for more details in the weeks to come! We’re starting a new program at the library on Thursday evenings from 6 to 7 PM: Conversaciones! We’re bringing English and Spanish learners together every week to have conversations and get some real-life practice for their language learning. Many of the students from this year’s ESL class have expressed interest in having more chances to build the English skills that they’ve gained, and I know that there a lot of folks like myself who have been learning some Spanish and would love to add more speaking time into their practice. We also know that conversations can build friendships and increase our understanding and empathy, so we’re really looking forward to this program. Join us! Finally, even though we’ll be closed on May 11, you can expect to see our staff members in the Health Days parade! We also have a booth reserved for the Health Days festivities at Forrester Acres from 11-4, so stop by and chat with us about the library, what we offer, and what we can do to make your life richer and more fun! We’re going to have stickers and buttons to give away, and a fun craft activity for the kids. We hope to see you there! This free app, created by OverDrive, is available for Android, iOS (iPhone/iPad/iPod touch), and Windows 10 devices. Libby is highly recommended for those new to borrowing eBooks and eAudiobooks.
