Elevator Policy

ELEVATOR POLICY

The Smithfield Public Library’s public elevator is for the convenience of library patrons and staff. It is especially needed for disabled patrons and for transporting materials and equipment between floors.

PUBLIC ELEVATOR SAFETY

Patrons and staff should observe the following rules to maintain safety and the smooth operation of the elevator:

•   Do not use the elevator during an emergency.

•   Do not tamper with elevator equipment or controls.

•   Do not pry or hold open the elevator doors by the edges.

•   Do not attempt to exit the elevator between floors.

•   Do not exceed the elevator’s weight limit of 2100 pounds.

An emergency phone or alarm can be sounded from inside the elevator if problems occur. This feature must only be used when needed, as each service call incurs a significant cost. Caregivers are responsible for making sure children do not use the emergency call feature unnecessarily.

Children under the age of 10 are not permitted to use the elevator without a caregiver.

Smithfield City has a warranty agreement with Schindler Elevator Corporation to inspect and maintain the equipment. The Remote Monitoring System will notify Schindler if any monitored component or function is operating outside established parameters. Monitoring is performed on a 24 hour, 7 day basis and will communicate with their customer service network. Schindler will only use compete technicians, specially trained, to service this equipment.

Warranty agreement is on file at the Smithfield City Office or the Smithfield Library.
